Abstract

Digital Orthodontic Guide (DOG): Digital Planning of Crown-Root Movement Periodontally Driven

Orthodontic treatment performed to obtain a crown-radicular movement with the aim of correcting the malocclusion can promote the development of recessions at the end of treatment and in the periodontal outcome. The latest consensus about the classification of periodontal conditions and diseases has actually shown that the periodontal "phenotype" is site-specific and can change over time thanks to environmental factors or the performance of clinical interventions, including orthodontic treatment. The scientific literature has also shown that the risk of developing recessions increases when orthodontic movement causes a root movement beyond the "bone housing" with the appearance of bone dehiscence. Basing on these considerations, the aim of the lecture is to highlight the usefulness of integrating the clinical assessment of periodontal health status and gingival phenotype, with the planning of the pre-visualized crown-radicular position using digital technologies. The lecture will be supported by the presentation of planned clinical cases with crown-radicular movement to obtain a phenotypic expression at the end of treatment, prognostically favorable.
